The Macki Music Festival is a small electronic music festival
in Paris that already has eco-responsible commitments but
which, until now, had no sustainable communication strategy. The latest
edition of the festival has therefore become a testing ground
for rethinking ephemeral communications.
Future festival-goers will bring the posters to life
in the streets with their tickets to discover hidden information about the festival.
To design them, I focused on moiré effects to create
animated posters using a simple system that reduces web file sizes,
and a halftone system that reduces ink coverage when printing while piquing
curiosity.
The colorful designs are coded in web-to-print, then screen-printed
with natural inks made from walnut husks and turmeric, which I devised
the recipe for. These inks are designed to fade with exposure to light over
time. These posters are printed on recycled Olin Rough
Solft White matte and Keaycolour Recycled particles sunshine paper, a good compromise
given budget constraints.
Digital communication is kept to a minimum, with a one-page website, no images, a link to the online ticket office, and program names revealed when the mouse hovers over them, replicating the poster system. On the Instagram page, the grid system is used to announce various practical information and the program.
